LECTURE: “NEW” & INTERACTIVE MEDIA APRIL 22, 2014 • Computers grew from machines that performed mathematical calculations o Used to take up entire rooms; chips, microprocessors, etc. developed that allow more  info to be stored on a smaller space (ex. iPhone) o Development of modem allowed computers to talk to each other o Computers originally found in workplaces, sophisticated work done at work; as they  got smaller, moved into our homes o Personal computers with software developed in the 70s, but didn’t really feel the need  to have one • Internet developed by department of defense as communication device during global  emergency o GPS originally used by Dept. of Defense to find places to bomb o Not­for­profit military device to how can we make money off of this? o Drones
