Document Summary

Number of childhood deaths by disease per year. The leading cause of death in children, despite the fact that it is extremely rare. Leukemia (31%), cns (26%), and lymphoma (10%) are the three leading types of childhood cancers. Cancer incidence is really high in the early stages of childhood, falls down, and then goes back up after age 10. Cancer incidence under 20 years old by type. Incidence is increasing, but not by a dramatic rate. While incidence has increased, mortality has decreased. More screening and testing could possibly account for the lower mortality rates. In 2014, there were an estimated 419,000 survivors of childhood cancer (people diagnosed with cancer at ages 0-19 years) in the united states. There is a lack of researchers, public support for pediatric cancer nonprofits, research funds, and lack of awareness. If one cancer cell is left in the body, it takes about 5 years for that cell to redevelop back into a cancer.
