23 views2 pages

Document Summary

Limitations: social roles are context specific. Role theory also has difficulty explaining out of context interactions: where roles do not provide scripts for what to expect and how to behave. Not everyone plays the role in the same way: everyone in the same role would be the same, regardless of other roles and variables. The concept of role making helps to explain individual differences: people make it their own in a way that plays to an individual"s strengths and weaknesses, other limitations. Role identity: people fit to roles, but eventually the roles define the individuals. Role loss: very unsettling to people when they loss a role that"s a big part of their identity, must know, no role is forever, uncertainty/anxiety. Role stress: stress = demands capacities, the gap between ds (demands) the role needs and ci (capacities) needed to fulfill the role.
