Document Summary

Structure: enclosed in a pericardial sac, outer brous pericardium & inner serous pericardium, serous pericardium secretes a uid which lls the pericardial sac. In ammation of the serous pericardium = pericarditis: if the sac over lls with uid it can prevent the heart from beating = cardiac tamponade, two atrioventricular valves. Have chordae tendineae (aka heartstrings ) which reinforce the cusps. They are attached to papillary muscles which provide tension: there are also a pair of semilunar valves. Pocket like aps at the base of the aorta & pulmonary trunk - prevent back ow into the heart at relaxation: heart murmur - any unusual heart sound, usually due to: Improper closure of the fossa ovals between the two atria. Other causes would be improper closer of the valves. Coronary circulation - at the base of the aorta are the left & right coronary arteries: right coronary artery splits into the: Marginal artery which brings blood to the right ventricle.
