Maturation is the driving force behind development. Human being as an active agent in own development. Schemes/schemas = cognitive structure or mental representation of the world for processing, organizing, and interpreting information. Schema of a puppy" = 4 legged animal. All 4-legged animals = puppies: accommodation. 0-2 sensorimotor capable of coordinating the activities of the senses with motor activities; moves from re exes to intentional and goal directed actions; the attainment of object permanence. 2-7 pre-operational capable of symbolic representation, such as in language, but with limited ability to use mental operations.
