Assessment of the breast and regional lymph system. 75% of lymph nodes drain into the same side, but 25% drain to the other side. Subjective data: health history questions: breast, pain, lump, discharge- color, odor, when does it occur, rash, swelling- unilateral or bilateral, change in bra size, trauma. Lecture 12: history of breast disease- in individual, family hx, surgical history- breast enhancement, breast enlargement, lumpectomy, self-care behaviors- mammogram, self-breast exams, axilla, tenderness, lump, or swelling, rash. Every woman needs to do self-breast exams once per month. Gynecomastia- usually bilateral, can be related to medication (antipsychotic), disease states (pituitary tumors) Does a movement of the arm change the placement: fixation, edema (peau d"orange)- leathery, scaly, itchy skin, nipple retraction, supernumerary nipple- 3rd nipple. Abnormal findings: breast lump: benign breast disease fibrocystic breast disease. No treatment: carcinoma- usually unilateral; nontender; solid, fixed nodule; most common in upper outer quadrant in tail of spence.
