Document Summary

Subjective data- important health information and functional health patterns. Objective data- visual acuity, extraocular muscle functions, pupil function, intraocular pressure. Prevent light rays from converging into a single focus on the retina. Causes include irregularities of: corneal curvature, focusing power of the lens, length of the eye. Types of correctable refractive errors: myopia- nearsightedness (cannot see far away) most common refractive error, hyperopia- farsightedness (cannot see near them, presbyopia- vision changes as they age. Changes with vision associated with aging (40 years old usually: astigmatism- unusual curvature in cornea causing incoming light rays are bent so there is no single point of focus. Goes along with one of the refractive error: aphakia- absence of the lens. Clinical manifestations of refractive errors: *blurred vision, eye discomfort, eyestrain, headaches. Monitor for rsvp (redness, sensitivity, vision problems, pain). Corneal molding- wear hard contact that changes shape of cornea.
