CMD 377 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Falx Cerebri, Dural Venous Sinuses, Superior Sagittal Sinus
Document Summary
Brain protection: meningeal coverings of brain and spinal cord. Membranous coverings between the skull and the brain. Outer layer: serves as the periosteum of the inner surface of the skull. Throughout most of the brain, the two layers are tightly fused but some parts have opening between the two (sinuses) Places where the inner dural layer folds in on itself as a sheet like protrusion. Falx cerebri intervenes between the two cerebral hemispheres. Tentorium cerebelli separates the cerebrun and cerebellum. Tentorial notch space in tentorium through which brainstem passes. Falx cerebelli partially separates the two cerebellar hemispheres. Sinuses formed by separation between two dural layers. Superior sagittal sinus along the attached edge of the falx cerebri. Transverse sinus (left and right) along the posterior line of attachment of the tentorium. Straight sinus along the line of attachment of the falx cerebri and tentorium cerebelli. Confluence of the sinuses where all four sinuses meet.
