PSY 235 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Thematic Apperception Test, Face Validity, Discriminant
Document Summary
Personality- what makes someone unique/what separates people: biggest tools we have is personality questionnaires. Self report questionnaire- acquiescence response set aka faking good . Thus, many personality measures include some statements worded in the opposite direction (these items are reverse scored) Drawbacks: people may not have accurate views of themselves, people may not be honest. Robert woodworth developed the rst personality scale during wwi. Correlation- statistical relationship between 2 variables, positive and negative. When 2 variables are not related, there is a null correlation. Internal reliability- when all of the items on the scale measure the same concept. Validity- means a scale measures what it"s supposed to measure. Face validity- items appear to measure what they are supposed to measure. Predictive validity- measure is related to a speci c behavior or outcome. Convergent validity- the scale correlates with similar scales. Discriminant validity- the scale doesn"t correlate with unrelated scales. Informant reports- when other people report on someone"s personality.
