Neo-analytic theorists- thinkers who challenged and built on the ideas of freud. Unconscious mind- part of the mind outside of conscious awareness. Conscious mind- part of the mind within out usual awareness. The structural model- freud"s model of the mind with 3 parts: the id, ego, and super ego. Id- the unconscious mind, motivated for pleasure and wish ful llment. Ego- conscious part of the mind that navigates between the ego and super ego. Super ego- strict and demanding part of the mind. Freudian slip- when what you really think deep down comes out as a slip of the tongue. Cathexis- attachment of libido to thoughts, objects, or parts of the body. [developmental stages]- stages children go through as libido moves through the body. Latent- quieting of the libido from age 6 until puberty. Genital- when the child begins adult sexual development in puberty. Infancy (0-12 months), oral, everything goes in mouth.
