These interactions determine distribution of organisms and their abundance. Ecology reveals the richness of the biosphere. Root of all ecology is observation (quantify) Walker branch watershed: pipes and troughs used to move water between plots to study how forest responds to altered precipitation. In order to determine the role of water in the forest ecosystem. Organismal ecology- studies how an organism"s structure, physiology, and (for animals) behavior meet environmental changes. The facets of the organism and that affects its position and behavior in its habitat. Population ecology- focuses on factors affecting how many individuals of a species live in a particular area. Not focused on if the animals are happy or sad, but more just the numbers. Community ecology- deals with the whole array of interacting species in a community.
