Cells taken directly from an organism: limited proliferation (if any) Sources: cells isolated from tumors, cells immortalized by transfecting them with genes that interfere with cell, cells with spontaneous mutations cycle, aging, etc. The first cell line was from 1951, taken from cervical cancer cells that were naturally immortal (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2) (cid:2: cell line was called hela and was used to develop the polio vaccine. Most cells attach and grow on surfaces flasks, petri dishes, and multi-well plates: treated polystyrene plastic, can be pre-coated with extracellular matrix proteins.
