Document Summary

Sleep deprivation - not enough sleep (especially at night) Sleep apnea - hypopnea syndromes (sleep-disordered breathing syndromes) 2 & 3 - both affect nighttime sleep, but generally present as excessive daytime sleepiness. Deep daytime sleep with adequate (>10 hr) nighttime sleep. Long naps (several hours) with difficult arousal (sleep inertia) Children, or young adults go through week-long episodes that occur periodically (may last weeks) where they"re hypersomnia. Whole thing disappears after years (stops spontaneously) Tends to co-occur with a mild infection beforehand (most common antecedent) Secondary - lots of pain during the night. Mimics - patient describes feeling tired or fatigued (not necessarily sleepy. Prevalence of short sleep duration (<7 hours) for adults aged > 18 years by county (us 2014) May include naturally short-sleepers skew the numbers. Boost their delta naturally with nothing wrong with them. Also with areas with smaller populations percents can be skewed.
