Document Summary
We have various developmental tasks throughout life: the more you know about yourself developmentally, the better you can make your choices. Early relationships have a huge impact on our psychological and emotional make-up; temperament is also a factor: parent-child relationship: better if parents are more attached to you. Good fit b/w child and parents are also important. Object relations a post-freudian school of thought that emphasizes our internal world of people: freud: interested in inside psyche, not interested in interrelationship interactions, objects = internal world of people. External world has a big impact too: family constellation, social learning, etc, what"s happening in the larger world, physical parents = outside world. D. w. winnicott: dyad concept = everything exists in pairs. Emphasizes potential space, transitional object, and false self: no such thing as a human infant bc no human exists solely (exists as a dyad). Relates to couples: transitional object: 1st transition of not me that can help me when.
