Document Summary
The court does affect how the public feels about issues with its decision, theoretically. People have to be aware to change their minds. Most research cannot prove a systematic relationship of the court to public opinion. It gets a lot of media focus, people are aware of what the court is deciding. It does not affect people"s positions on the issues. It does not really change people"s minds on opinions. In certain circumstances, the court can move public opinion. The more salient an issue is, the more likely the court will be able to move people. The more salient an issue is, the more people are aware of the issue. Also, the more likely they are aware of the reasoning in the case, more likely to listen to the argument. People exposed to the legal arguments are more likely to have their opinion be changed. Can also look at sub populations, often look at effects of partisanship.
