IS 2010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Random-Access Memory, Central Processing Unit, Coprocessor
Document Summary
The system unit- also known as the system chassis is a container that holds the electronic components of a computer system. A personal computer is the most commonly used type of computer. The four most common types are desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile devices. Desktops places vertically are called tower units or computers. Apple"s mac, have the monitor and system unit in the same case. Ultrabooks are a type of very portable laptop. They are longer and thinner and have a longer battery life. They do this by leaving out components like optical drives and energy-efficient microprocessors. Tablets- newest type with the system unit located behind the monitor. Mini tablets are another form of tablet with less functions but more mobility. Mobile devices- also known as handheld computers. Personal computers all have system boards, microprocessors, and memory. The system board (mainboard or motherboard) controls everything and allows all components to communicate.
