Document Summary

All matter transmits energy- transferred to objects to do work or heat objects. Energy at the atomic level is motion of particles. Two types of energy: kinetic- vibration, rotation, motion. The more motion, the warmer it gets: potential- energy contained within molecular bonds. Warming- a gain in energy, increase in temperature. Cooling- a loss in energy, decrease in temperature. Thermal energy is transferred from higher temperature to lower temperature objects. Conduction- energy transfer via a direct contact between a warmer and cooler object. Convection- vertical heat transfer by ow of a material by a convection cell. Advection- energy transfer by moving mass sideways. Emr (electromagnetic radiation)- energy radiated from charged particles; wavelike. Sunday, september 17, 2017: visible, uv light, x rays, radio, wi , microwaves. Wavelength- distance between adjacent crests or troughs. Frequency- number of waves per second passing a point.
