The state of being hungry drives a lot of different responses. Drive: a hierarchal organization of the motivational state, caused by biological factors. Homeostasis: optimal range of values necessary for life. Negative feedback: output of a system is fed back to reduce the input. It"s like the body saying you"re ok now after a drive to meet a need. Result of things like hunger or thirst. When you"re body temperature is too high or too low, you are away from homeostasis. Set point: state of system is compared to this, which is an optimal set of values that can detect when something is off and self correct the issue. Hunger and thirst come into play when your body needs the basic attainment of energy and hydration. Food deprivation: hunger sensations, but can be ignored for an extended period of time w/o dire consequences. Drink deprivation: causes intense thirst will most likely die within the week.
