This failure to maintain adequate growth can be caused by a multitude of factors. Could be related to increased metabolism, and/or malnutrition, food shortages, incorrect mixing of formula, or neglect: organic, nonorganic. Signs and symptoms include: stomach pain, gas, and loose stool. Role of parents in promoting healthy nutrition in early childhood. Parents are modeling self regulation that the child will take on as their norm. Social aspect of sitting and talking together and having manners. They serve themselves the food so they decide how much they want to eat. Gross motor of passing the plates and utensils. Gives them a fulfilling sense of independence. Special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children (wic) Impacts over half of the infants in the us. Wic referrals results in 32% higher childhood immunization rates. 10,000 wic clinic sites provide services to participants. Household income < 185% of federal poverty guideline. Not an entitlement program, federal grant program.
