Genes contain a blueprint of the aa sequence. Parts- side chain, amine group, acid group, backbone. Denature the protein by acid (hydrochloric, stomach acid) Pancreatic protease (made in pancreas, secreted into small intestine, finishes the breakdown of the protein) Broken down to single aa or short chains for absorption. Structure- much of your body is protein (muscle, connective tissue, organs, bones) Lipoproteins (capture lipids in protein capsules to transport through the blood) Draws fluid in- osmotic pressure (need this to balance our blood pressure) Most proteins are enzymes (enzymes control and facilitate chemical reactions) Enzyme can perform the same reaction many times without being damaged or used up. Three amino acids that are neurotransmitters or their precursors. Precursor- a chemical that can be turned into the final product. Very long cells, signal goes down the cell (synapse) Knows when bacteria are foreign by the presence of proteins.
