Stereotypes: cultural and behavioral generalizations (positive or negative, but typically incorrect) about an entire group of people. Influences how we interact with individuals of the stereotyped group. Prejudice: refers exclusively to a state of mind. Opinions or attitudes --good or bad-- held by members of one group towards another group. Racism: an ideology of beliefs and practices based on the perception of another race"s inferiority. This is the biological (older) version of the definition. Forms and graduations of racism (how overt or intentional is it?) Still harboring racist feelings, so you hide it in public. Refusal to acknowledge that racism discrimination still exist. Persistent racial disparities are the result of individual failings. Discrimination: unequal treatment of people on account of their race or ethnicity. Institutional (structural) discrimination: discrimination built into normal, routine activities and practices. Becomes so built in that it becomes invisible. Masks accumulated historical disadvantages can discrimination be unintentional.
