PSYC 3710 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Lake Wobegon
Document Summary
We organize them according to our roles and activities. Self complexity is the number and diversity of our self-aspects in different roles: low self complexity; many similar self-aspects *some person regardless what situation they are in i. e. work, school, family, friends, etc. *a lot of overlap in personality traits: high self- complexity; many independent self aspects *having different behaviors based on where or who the person is around. Linville (1985) - ss completed a self- complexity scale, took a bogus iq test, & some were told they were in the top 10% of yale students while others were told they were in the bottom 10%. After the bogus test, the students took a mood scale; hsc did not have a significant different in moods; Lsc, since they have same traitsone area gets ruined and it follows along to the rest of the areas. Hsc can better compartmentalize and therefore one area is bad does not affect other areas.
