Seems desirable b/c subjectively attractive people are engaging in behaviors. Tied to peer culture and self-presentation cool, attractive, sophisticated, tough. Though dangerous, are pleasurable help cope w/ stressful situations, can represent thrill-seeking. Develop gradually exposure experimentation regular engagement. Predicted by some of the same factors high stress (i. e. low ses environments), adolescence (family problems, low self-esteem, employment & school, poor school performance, poor self-control) Drug abuse: the use of a drug to the extent that it impairs the user"s biological, psychological, or social well-being . Agonist: drug that attaches to a receptor and produces neural actions that mimic or enhance those of a naturally occurring neurotransmitter. Antagonist: drug that blocks the action of a naturally occurring neurotransmitter or agonist. Drugs that affect reuptake of neurotransmitters: can enhance or inhibit reuptake of nts into the synapse.
