There is a loss of power, producer to consumer, children begin to make decisions for you, basic right to work changed, maybe reduced employment or forced retirement. Last one left in family friends have died . Social support networks- keep you out of skilled nursing facilities sniffs . Men vs women: for men wife may be it, their support network. For women tend to have broader support network. Also 50% chronically mentally, older men have higher suicide rate. 1990"s looked at aging and geropsychology, like living of women women live alone more frequently then men majority live in family setting.
