AVS 1220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Indicated Airspeed, Dynamic Pressure, Leading Edge
Document Summary
Purpose is to enable aircraft to be rotated about its three axis: lateral, longitudinal, vertical. Mounted as far away as possible so they create largest moment for the least amount of force, less fatigue. Total returning force= lift force on control surface x distance of the cop of the control surface to hinge. Flight control utter: distortion of aircraft structures, twist slightly. Direct result of center of gravity being behind the hinge line. One in cockpit, one at ight control: tabs. Balance tab: assist pilot in moving ight controls (reduce pilot effort) Anti-balance tab: resists the pilot in moving ight controls (increase pilot effort) Servo tab: any tab which assists pilot in moving ight controls, pilot applies force to tab only (reduce pilot effort) Fixed tab: used by engineers for semi-permanent trim adjustments. Spring tab: reduce ight control surface, helps when enough dynamic pressure, only at high speed: stabilator. Horizontal and vertical stabilizers combined: adverse yaw.
