Document Summary

The relationships between all living organisms and their environment. Individual ecology: interaction of one individual with its environment. Population ecology: group of related organisms that can interbreed with each other, which makes them a species, within a location. Ex: population of deer in morgantown, they travel around and interbreed with each other. Community ecology: all living organisms (including plants) that interact with each other in a given location. Ecosystem ecology: both the community of living and non-living (water type, temperature, humidity) that interact in a particular area. You cant really observe them interacting with other things. *****population is the lowest level of ecology observed*** Most ecological processes cannot be observed or studied within an individual. Rather, when studying them it is necessary to consider the entire group of individuals that regularly exchange genes in a particular locale. The bigger the population, the faster it grows. Cannot continue on forever (realistic: run out of resources.
