Document Summary

What is social about sexualities: the way that the world outside teaches us about sex is something that is very personal, very private. It seems very natural to understand, sex and sexuality as part of your identity: not long ago, sex was not seen as part of your identity. Earlier, when religion dominated sex and sexuality was seen as a behaviour: sex is also associated with relationships. Sex is tied up in your relationship with other people: personal choices, nobody will argue that you are not making choices, some kind of agency to decide what kind of sex to have and with who. We like to understand the limits of sex and sexuality. We like to see sex and sexuality as border than personal choices. It is beyond just the choice based paradigm. It also organizes friendships: you will probably be friends with, who have similar sexual lives as you, who are in committed relationship, creates subcultures.
