ITEC 3210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Application Server, Microcomputer, Thin Client

19 views5 pages

Document Summary

We will have server in this approach, but it will be a microcomputer such as personal computer that will be responsible for data storage. The clients are microcomputer as well which will be responsible data access logic, presentation and application logic. In summary, this is bad practice because it has limitation, we have no access logic on server, only the data storage on the server side. It means to process, search and go through the data, client must get all the data from the server first which is a major problem. The second problem is, server is just a microcomputer meaning that it has very limited computing power. Third problem is the issue of scalability, it has obviously limited capacity hence its microcomputer, it cannot be upgraded. Lastly, availability is at stake too, with all these limitations. Overload will happen in this approach, which means too much for that capacity, it will affect the performance.
