Does a core deficit explain adhd: no, none of these are universal, none of them explain all or even most of the symptom variance in. Adhd: have kids without and with diagnosis of adhd and see if performance on the test predicts presence of disorder, ex. 3 large samples, only half with adhd has deficit in stop-signal test of executive control, 80% of adhd kids has deficit on at least 1 measure of ef, but so did controls! Infant attention and negative emotionality 12: parent education 11% of variance, externalizing behaviour = boys (modest, girls (infant iq scores) Current models of adhd: multiple deficits model, don"t have a problem with just cognitive behaviour or area, it"s a combination of multiple, evidence. Including cog tests and emotional factors in 1 study explained much more variance: looking for a single area of cognition doesn"t make sense, mixed model.
