PSYB38 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Edward Thorndike, Stimulus Control, Naturalistic Observation
Document Summary
Understanding what behaviour is and shaping that behaviour. =first appeared to be used by edward thorndike. Addressing some of the fundamentals of learning and memory. Applies principles of behaviour originally described in laboratory animals. =systematically applies principles of learning and techniques to assess and improve individual"s behaviours in order to enhance their daily functioning. 2-extinction -slowly losing the stimuli and reward relationship. 5-generalization -apply consequence to other similar stimuli (eg. seeing tiger or lion) 6-respondent conditioning -having experience the stimuli and consequence before, which would elicit a feeling when coming across the same stimuli. =anything muscular, glandular or electrical activity of an organism. Colours of an eye is not behaviour, but blinking is since it requires muscle action. The clothes someone is wearing is not a behaviour but the action of putting those clothes on is a behaviour. -behaviours that could be observed and recorded by someone other than the one performing the behaviour.
