Today"s focus: reason, language and the (in)dividual, the collapse of reason, start of the harlem renaissance, modernity and the republic of china. Elaine locke, and the idea of the new movement, contributed by a key figures within the idea of a community of black artists, black musicians,black writers who would produce and promote a black intellectual and cultural life. Winold reiss, langston hughes, c. 1925; augusta savage, la citadelle: freedom,1930: the poet langston hughes was crucial to this movement, a german artist who got to know elaine locke and became involved with elaine. Locke"s kind of literary projects and producing a portraits of key people in the harlem. Aaron douglas, aspects of negro life: from slavery through reconstruction, 1934: a change in what the community is remembered for it throughout the years. It"s the remembrance of the black community for slavery to the prince of the black community for freedom and celebration.
