Indigenous people in canadian society and across the world have all faced hard challenges. As there is more and more research and studies being conducted about indigenous peoples, the public is becoming aware of the over criminalization of indigenous peoples in our society today. Yet even with this new knowledge, there are still increases in their rate of imprisonment. Indigenous people are arrested at higher rates, and this has been the case for many years. When the details of arrests of indigenous people are released, there is the stigma that it is because of a few numbers of factors because of stereotypes. But with people calling for change and stereotypical barriers being broken why can people not understand that colonization is at the root.
