Whenever we begin working stata for a lab, a problem set, or a data analysis project, we"ll start with the same few steps: be sure you have downloaded the data we"ll be using from owl. This week, we"ll be using a new dataset, one that we"ll return to throughout the rest of the semester. It is a subset of the 2016 canadian general social survey (gss). I"ve posted it to this week"s stata lab page on owl. Save the file in an easy to find folder on your computer. You should also download, save, and open the codebook file, called codebook-gss2016. pdf: open stata (either on your own computer, or by logging into myvlab, open a new do file editor, set the working directory, and open the data file. Give your blank do file a header that will tell you what this do file is for and sets the working directory.
