Pain: pain is feedback from body about something it doesn"t like, acute, short-lived, hours to few weeks, muscle tissue or tendons, stubbing toe. Why is pain difficult to study: qualitative (how do you know when someone say their pain is bad, some cultures it is forbidden to talk about pain while other cultures are all about talking about pain. Measuring pain: mpq, you circle parts of body that are hurting and then circle best descriptor of pain out of all the words provided. If you don"t know what descriptors mean, then this won"t work: your perception on something may be different too, but this is better than nothing. Pain catastrophizing scale: doctors score up all your answers. Important to know what type of person you are dealing with (positive vs catastrophizers)
