Document Summary

Business is an organization engaged in a for-profit activity, whereas society is a collective group of people who share a common set of social institutions. It is open knowledge that over a half of the planetary population is dependent on the business for survival and daily subsistence. At this point, it is almost impossible to cut away business from society or society from business. This, however, does not mean society cannot exist without business because there was a time when society was well structured without business; therefore, business is not natural or inevitable, but it emerged out of necessity. Over the centuries, as business and society co- existed and evolved irreversibly, the "free" market has become the de facto institution for managing societies. Alluding from david harvey (2007) in his book a brief history of. Neoliberalism, he defines neoliberalism as the intentional extension of markets as the core if not only institution to organize ourselves and society.
