PSY 311 Lecture 2: Tips for a successful discussion
Document Summary
Gradually make the questions more complex or analysis-oriented: now ask your more critical / thought-provoking / contentious questions. Ask if anyone has anything on their mind that hasn"t been addressed yet. If you can, leave the group with something to think about during the next week: thank your class for a great discussion! Tips for leading an engaging discussion: try not to answer your own questions, occasionally, stop the action and ask students to take a stand on a particular question. Ask them to justify their positions: as the discussion becomes more complex, ask students to refine each other"s answers and arguments, stop and review as needed.
