Document Summary

When it comes to comparing how a disease, plague, or pandemic is managed between today and rome, we will undoubtedly be ahead in terms of how it is treated and prevented. To compare, i will be using our current pandemic (covid 19) and the antonine plague (mentioned in the lecture) To begin with, these diseases were treated differently due to preconceived beliefs and sophisticated medical knowledge that we now possess. Rome"s initial action in stopping the disease from spreading was to build a statue of the god apollo in order to prevent more deaths and relieve the suffering of its victims. In contrast, covid"s first steps were lockdowns and mask mandates (which were almost successful in slowing down covid). Furthermore, because of advances in medical knowledge and technology, covid was far less painful and lethal than it would have been in rome. Unfortunately, rome did little to prevent it and relied entirely on praying to their gods to protect them.
