PSY343H5 Lecture Notes - Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behaviour Therapy
Document Summary
Idea is that, your behavior is in response to some kind of stimulus: modified so you can learn certain behaviors. Theory of psychopathology: learning is the root of all psychopathology, maladaptive or abnormal behaviors are also learned, example: anxiety, neurotic paradox. Therapeutic procedures: i. e. , training a dog to do a fancy trick; hard to teach them if you are only rewarding them right at the end; instead, reinforce by rewarding each behavior until the full trick (behavior) Imagine as your professor, i want to reinforce the behavior of studying and learning; weekly quiz, know there is this reinforcing thing that will increase the behavior: ration schedule, not time based, but response based. Instead of a weekly quiz, professor would do a pop-quiz: more effective than interval schedules, shaping, subtype to apply reinforcement, reward progressive steps of the behavior. Rational emotive behavior therapy founded by albert elise: rebt & cognitive therapy were independently developed at the same time.
