Nomothetic approach: looking at large groups of ppl to make generalizations about personality structure. Focus on what personality factors/traits are relevant to understanding ppl in general. Extraversion is a nomothetic trait b/c it can describe everyone. Allows psychologists to look at what types of ppl are more/less likely to engage in certain behaviours.
