Document Summary

Beadle tantum: created one gene one polypeptide hypothesis, one gene can code for more than one protein sometimes. Transcription: synthesis of rna with dna (mrna), carries genetic message to protein synthesis. Bacteria protein synthesis: same place and same time. Eukaryotic protein synthesis: different space and time, has rna processing. Separates dna strands and transcribes mrna, binds to template strand reads dna 3"-5", assembles 5"-3"; added towards 3". Promoter: specific nucleotide sequence rna polymerase binds to-tata box. Terminator: bacteria, sequence of nucleotides marking end of gene. Transcription unit: region of dna transcribed to rna. In bacteria, process ends because it hits terminator. In eukaryotes, process ends because it transcribes polyadenylation signal sequence". Facilitates export from nucleus, protects mrna from degradation. Not everything that is transcribed is translated-trna, spliceosomes . Alternative rna splicing: gene regulation, different parts of mrna molecules from same pre- mrna used, depends on which parts are exons and introns.
