Document Summary

The battered woman syndrome is the condition of a woman who experiences domestic abuse to be desensitized and accept her abuse as a result of helplessness. A (i) tension that leads to an (ii) incident, and (iii) resolved with reconciliation of the abuser stating they will change but ultimately it is a cycle. Though many people understand and tolerate this idea, there have also been a lot of controversy due to painting a bad picture of women. Firstly, people confuse the syndrome for an excuse that will allow a woman for getting away with a crime that they committed that say a man would face severe consequences for. Women are ultimately seen as liars and cheaters of the system that is just out to protect them. Another issue that the phrase itself portrays a stereotypical woman who is a good woman who faces abuse until some event causes her to act in a deadly violence.
