John locke introduces the concept of the distinction of primary and secondary qualities of things in one of his important books (book ii) as part of his philosophical findings on ideas. Locke essentially wanted to question the nature and the validity of sense perception towards objects. Locke also wanted to identify the differences between ideas and qualities of things and how to distinguish between them. He stated that ideas are the immediate objects of perception and thought and that qualities on the other-hand, belongs to external tangible objects.
