Document Summary

It is my belief that school shooters ultimately do want to change the image that others have in them; but i do not believe that the driving force for them to commit these violent acts is related to image. It is only after they have decided on carrying out these acts that they consider how they will be remembered. Revenge seems to be their primary motive, borne out of being ostracized from their peers or being slighted by others. This is the fuel which feeds the person to become narcissistic, which ultimately leads to anger and rage for which there is no outlet. Individuals who exhibit narcissistic disorders do not function as well during times of elevated stress or conflict due to insufficient coping mechanisms (eargle & esmail, 2016, p. 22). They create an unfounded self-image of themselves as being a martyr or a hero in the eyes of others by carrying out the violent act.
