Lecture : CHM2123_2021_Review
Document Summary
Chm2123 laboratory of organic chemistry 2021. This short review document covers the key theoretical aspects important to the. Chm2123 course and that are subject to evaluation for the final written examination. Note that these various topics are not laid out in any specific order of importance. Calculate and inter-relate equivalents, moles, masses, volumes, concentration (mol/l, g/ml, %m/v), density and yield. Stereochemistry is the study of the relative spatial arrangement of the atoms that make up the molecules. Molecules made-up of the same atoms linked together through the same types of bonds, but that differ in the spatial arrangement of the atoms in 3d space are known as stereoisomers. Different types of stereoisomerism exist, each with their own peculiarities. Enantiomers are almost identical in properties, whereas diastereoisomers will display different properties. Compounds that are meso are pairs of stereoisomers with chiral centers yet that are still superimposable with each other, and therefore identical to each other.
