SK111 Lecture : Critical Reflection
Document Summary
As a white settler in canada, it is important for me to reflect on the privilege and power that come with my identity and how it has affected the lives and experiences of. The history of colonization in canada has led to the displacement and oppression of indigenous communities, and as a settler, i benefit from the ongoing effects of this history. One of the ways in which i can actively work towards decolonization is by educating myself on the history and current issues facing indigenous peoples. This includes learning about the treaties that were signed between the crown and. Indigenous nations, and the ways in which these treaties have been and continue to be disregarded. It also includes learning about the ongoing impacts of residential schools and the forced removal of indigenous children from their families. Another important aspect of decolonization is recognizing and acknowledging the land on which i live.
