Document Summary

Two-spirit, lgbtqia+ canadian migrants face unique challenges in their migration experiences due to the intersectionality of their identities. Two-spirit is a term used by some indigenous peoples in canada to describe individuals who possess both a masculine and feminine spirit. Lgbtqia+ individuals may face discrimination and marginalization in their home countries, leading them to seek asylum in canada. However, upon arriving in canada, they may still face discrimination and marginalization, particularly if they are also. Indigenous two-spirit individuals may also face issues with the loss of cultural connection and community. Many indigenous cultures have specific roles and responsibilities for two-spirit individuals, and migration can disrupt this connection to culture and community. It is important for the canadian government and society to recognize and address these intersectional issues faced by two-spirit, lgbtqia+ canadian migrants. This can include providing resources and support for cultural reconnection, as well as implementing policies and laws to combat discrimination and marginalization.
