ARCC 3202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Vapor Barrier, Building Science, Party Wall

6 views6 pages

Document Summary

Environmental barriers are essential, all exterior envelope. Env barriers, necessary in interior components (per code) Offices and a computer room - separated bc of dissimilar environment. Commonly overlooked - if you turn down to 10 degrees c, and neighbours have wall heating at 25 degrees, thats a big differential. Typical party wall conditions: temperature differential, air leakage, vapour diffusion, moisture barriers (different in exterior walls) Exterior wall has vapour barrier - helps retire flow of vapour through it. Interior side of wall usually has temp of 25c, and 50% humidity, thus if there is a space in the wall cavity where vapour is not passing completely, it will condense. To get condensation - have water vapour that comes into contact with humidity at dew point. Only way to dry out, is through drainage. Thus need to control vapour drive on both sides of wall. Flow of heat from hot to cold, and vapour drive goes from high low pressure.
