1. The highly polymorphic HLA alleles in humans reflect polymorphisms that have been conserved since before the divergence of humans and chimpanzees approximately 7.5 million years ago. Explain how this can be consistent with the observation that the most recent common ancestor of all human mitochondrial genomes—sometimes referred to as the Mitochondrial Eve—dates to around 200,000 years ago.
