The Galapagos marine iguana lives in coastal areas of the Galapagos Islands. These lizards feed on algae growth in the intertidal and near-shore marine areas, and bask in the sun between feeding bouts in order to maintain the energy needed for foraging trips.
Male lizards choose and defend small territories of the rocky shore. The âqualityâ of the territories varies, and females choose mates based on the quality of their territories.
