I need help with genetics question. I want to explain by using PCR. I need help explaining results for each hypothesis.

A patient has been referred to you who was born with an altered bone structure in her hands. One hypothesis for the cause of this altered structure is a mutation that alters the action of the HOXD13 gene, but only in the developing hand at one particular point early in limb development. There are two hypotheses. (1) The patient has a mutation in the coding region of the HOXD13 gene that results in an altered protein that has altered function. (2) The patient has a mutation in the regulatory region of the HOXD13 gene that reduces the transcription of this gene in the cells in the developing embryonic limb.

a. Design a test or tests that you believe would determine which hypothesis is correct.

-I would do a PCR to determine which hypothesis is correct.

b. Describe the results you would expect from your tests if first hypothesis is correct, and also what you would expect if the second hypothesis is correct.
